How should i act with off and on friends??

On when it's on, off when it's off. But typically these people are called acquaintances, not friends. Friends are always on, no matter what time has passed, or the distance involved.

why would you have to act different than what you are really like? just be the way you normally are with all your friends.

Why not just be yourself? If someone's blowing hot and cold to you, don't waste your time being friends with them. Save your friendship for people who are genuine.
