Looks like everything he will need.

The main component is the steel in the razor itself. The higher quality it is the sharper it can be and the longer it will hold an edge. I suspect that since this looks like a pretty nice kit that the blade will be decent.

From my experience, I did the straight razor thing for awhile. All I can say is that double and triple edged razors were invented for a reason! It's not that you can't get a nice shave with a straight razor, but it takes a bit of skill to master and raking your bristles, especially if you are thick bearded, is less than pleasant. Also, although I never had any major nicks, you are much more likely to give yourself a nasty cut with a straight razor than with a modern razor.

i wouldnt attempt it, it form of feels very diffucult and hazardous, basically use a established razor yet get a strong one with 3 or 4 blades to grant you a close shave and use shaving creme. you may want to as properly use a mens razor!

Sounds good to me....He'll need a lot of practice....Make sure he goes about it very slow at first...face hair needs to be really soft, so he has to apply very hot cloths before applying lather....Need a razor strop to keep the razor sharp......good luck...

Looks great to me.. can you get me one for xmas too? :-D

Its hard to say how great it is, its all in the metal used for the razor, look for one thats made from 440 stainless steel.
This one should do though

Buy him something else. His interest will wane after a week when he realizes how long and hard it is to shave that way.
