Geography plays a part in how every nation feeds themselves. I'm Greek and have spent alot of time in Greece being on the ocean seafood plays a huge part in our diet. And also being in a nice temperate climate allows for a beautiful growing season. the terrain is rocky yet fertile so we can grow a number of fruits and nuts that play another prominent role in our diets. Hope that helps you abit. Greece also is NOT an island and as for goats we love em. Also being the center of civilization and an ocean port, all trade routes crossed through Greece allowing us access to the worlds foods

In ancient Greece the climate/poor soil meant that meant parts of Greece had to rely on the importation of grain, this is the reason why Athens which had the best fleet at the time controlled the supply of food. For this food they went into the black sea and traded in Attic silver. A reason why today Athenian coins are found in many parts of the black sea area. The mountains and the fact that Greece was made up of islands meant that fish, shellfish and squid are what makes up the main diet of Greece even today.

They are an island, so fishing is a huge source of food. The island is rocky so animals like goats adapted well and were a source of milk and meat. The soil is good for olives and other smaller trees, including lemons. as well as herbs. Hardy vines , like grapes did well there. Their placement near Italy and the mideast made the foods from those places available to the Greeks.
