I think the article has merit. It's all very "Idol-like" now. Very generic sounding. Hopefully, it will implode & something new & fresh will enter the scene....

Pop died in the late 80s and early 90s. The good music now is all indie/alternative and or foriegn (from the U.S.). The reason why pop is the way it is is that producers found out they could make more money producing acts than representing good talent. That's because of the way royalties work. If you produce the band he or she can make the contract where the producer gets all the profits and the talent just gets a lump sum. The producer just sells the music to people that will buy anything they hear on the radio. Thanks to the internet, those that can look for better music have and easier way than reading all those reviews and hoping for the best.

I don't think so. Ever since Smash Hits magazine closed shop in the late 90's / Early 00's, they said it was because pop was dying. However what I think is dying, and hopefully soon, is crappy pop bands like Westlife, Atomic Kittens, who just simply rehash old songs. But there is an interesting number of bands, who simply do pop songs, but with an inventive edge to it. Bands like Sugababes, Girls Aloud etc, are actually releasing good pop music, and as long as they continue doing so, there should be no problem Remember Pop means popular, and as long as there is popular music, I don't think why it should die.

I'm not really into pop music, but it has been made even more horrendous by all these so called "talent shows".
Pop music just seems too manufactured, and there are far too many groups/soloists around who started off in a reality tv show format, and so sell heaps of records on the basis that the tv show is popular.
Luckily these acts are not around for too long, and in another 50years time will not be remebered by anybody.

I hope so. But, even if pop music as we think of it dies, another kind of pop will start. Pop is simply whatever's popular at the time.
