petty cash means a small amount of money... in business/account terms it's usually the money in a safe or cashbox that could be spent at any point but which also needs to be added to the bank balance when calculating your trial balance sheet

Petty cash is a small amount of cash kept in an office for "petty" purchases. Some companies keep about $200.00 on hand for emergency office supplies, employee lunches and the like.

Petty Cash is the term used to describe quite literally a box of cash which is kept as an emergency fund for supplies in a business. Examples of things bought from it would be tea / coffee / stationery (emergency supplies), in fact, anything needed in a hurry.

It's usually kept with a fixed float and is topped up by the Accounts department whenever it's been used.

Hope that helps!

Petty cash is money set aside like in a box and its used for odds and ends things. Like if someone wanted you to mail something they would just pay you the money and you would put it into petty cash.

Petty cash is an accounting term used to describe the small amount of cash kept on hand by a business to cover small expenses: i.e., purchasing small items like stationary, covering small expenses like parking fees or tolls, etc.

In the vernacular, "petty cash" just means a small sum of money.

It is a small pool of money (originally of real cash, now generally referring to a general fund) that can be used for "petty" things like business lunches, an emergency car rental, buying poster board for a presentation, things like that.
