You should always use a new mattress whether they have been used once or loads. So I would say that yes you would need a new mattress unless you have kept it in a clean and dry place and it has never been used. Mothercare do some for £15-20. It's worth it for your baby.

Provided it's got a waterproof mattress (ie plastic coated or similar) and hasn't been used then there's no need to get a new one. Most mattresses are like this these days, to stop dirt from getting in. If it's a foam mattress or one that isn't wipe-clean, then it might be a good idea to change it because of dust mites etc. Otherwise just clean it with an antibacterial spray (Dettol, Milton etc) and it'll be absolutely fine.
PS: Should you decide you want a new one anyway, they're not very expensive from Mothercare...

I have both, I had the cot in my bedroom and the moses basket I took in the front room but at night time I put the basket in the crib, if that makes sense. Con about the moses basket is, THEY GROW OUT OF IT SOOO FAST but the pro I suppose is they can be used again and they look comfy lol. I have a crib that turns into a junior bed, I think they save money. Just thought I'd add that bit in. :)

I would say yes it will be fine to use. I would just wipe it over with a damp cloth and hang it out on the washing line so it gets the chance to be aired. It will be fine to use then and you will be using a sheet on it so the baby won't be directly on it. If your still unsure or it smells then buy a new one. If your not happy then theres no point worrying if its ok or not.xx

.Hi I would say if it was still in it's plastic packaging i.e. still sealed you would not need to by a new one. If this is not the case I would recommend you bite the bullet and get a new one you do not know how the mattress has been stored all the best

The old mattress is fine. There is no problem with it. You will probably put a sheet on it anyway.

As it's been sitting unused, all you need to do is give everything a good wash, just to freshen it up.
