Yeah, but only after I pester them more. Unfortunately I like getting to the bottom of things and the only way I know how to do that is to pester.

Good question being that I had to deal with that today. I just remained the same except with more smiling and less arrogance than usual... and eventually everything smoothed over.
I feel that you should never back away, because then the friend will think that you are being uncompromising... it sends the wrong message in my opinion.

I take a wait and go see approach to his/her emotions at the moment. If they could continue to use a good pester, than a pestering they will get.

Usually. Unless I feel their pestering tolerance was way too low then I'll call them out but more to find out if there's something else bothering them.
