First, check to be sure the exhaust pipe in the back is not being crushed. Most dryer manufacturer's require a metal duct from your dryer, but a lot of people who install their dryers themselves use a white vinyl hose. This is not an approved installation and can be dangerous. If you do have a white vinyl flexible hose you should have a professional install solid metal piping. If you already have solid metal piping on the exhaust it might be blocked with lint. This can be a fire hazard, so you should have a professional come in and clean the exhaust duct and the dryer itself. If the exhaust gets blocked the dryer takes longer to dry and can overheat and cause a fire. If you do all those things and the dryer still takes a long time to dry it is possible that a thermostat or the heating element has malfunctioned. In this case, you'll need a repair person to come to your house to fix it. I don't suggest you do the things I suggested above yourself. There are professionals that can help you. Keep in mind that there are approximately 15,000 dryer fires in the US each year and they can be devastating. You should have the service done as soon as possible.

Dryer Not Drying

I would suggest to make sure your lint filter is cleaned after every load-then check the duct behind the dryer-make sure it's clean. People most generally know to clean the lint filter, but rarely look at the back when it connects to the duct. This not only makes your dryer not dry well, but it's also a fire hazard.
You can always put less clothes in the dryer to see if that helps. The only next thing would be to see if the heating element is bad.

Step 1: Check the lint/heat discharge tube for blockage (the tube that goes from the drier to the outside wall vent). If not blocked, go to step 2, which is - ensure the lint filter mesh is not clogged over with lint (if clogged,This causes inadequate air flow within the machine causing a false temperature reading at the Thermostat. If not blocked, got to Step 3, which is - Check the Thermostat to make sure there is no break between the contact points (this will require a volt meter), If the Thermostat is good, Then the heating elements may be going bad, and yes, they are kind of expensive and should be replaced only by a qualified Maytag repair man....:)

RE:

let me throw that question back to you. How old is your dryer! If it is in that state may you may consider changing it. However, if is 5 yrs older try to check the filter it might be located at the back of the unit and sometimes at front below the door. try to clean it and take off the lint deposited fron your filter this is one aspect that might effect the heat in yiour dryer. second, if you still have the instruction manual look for trouble shooting method follow it and if still not working then time to call for an expert have it diagnose but the repair will cost you much you may wish to buy a new one

All of these answers are great , but there is one other thing to consider It may not be the dryer it could be that the washing machine is not spinning the water out of the clothes as well as it once did.

Check the lint filter. Otherwise, the thermostat could be buggered. If all else fails, buy a new dryer.

If you don't have a vent on the dryer, will it cause it to not heat well?

2015-02-23 07:53:57 · answer #9 · answered by ? 1 · 0 0

First check to see if the vent is clogged with lint, thats the most coomon problem.
#2 check the thermostat, in other words when you feel the wet clothes are they warm or hot, if they are then you know the thermostat is working and the vent is clogged with lint
