i saw the stones play at berlin's olympic stadium this summer. after seening many gigs this year i have to say they blew the others out of the water. i went with some reservations - mainly are they too old for this, will they fail to create an atmosphere at this huge venue (having see U2 and the same place and was bored ridgid) to be honest, i went to see them as i thought it was probably their last tour beore another one dies..... it was the most amazing gig i have ever seen, the venue wasn't sold out yet the atmosphere was superb. they played for more than 2 hrs and not one song was a disappointment. the banter was fantastic, they are true performers... paint it black and sympathy for the devil were just sublime. it was pure theatre. for a bunch of pensioners to play for over 2 hrs, nothing but hits, not a single filler is why, for me they will always be the greatest rock and roll band ever.

I have been a Stones fan since they began so tend to agree with you. The younger generation cannot understand why someone my age would like their music, but when they first started I WAS part of the younger generation and a true fan will remain true come what may. So OK, some of their stuff hasn't been so great, but we all have our bad days, and I have been told that the Group is only human after all. In my eyes, they are definitely THE GREATEST.

i grew up with the strolling bones. true they are a bloody good rock n roll band, so were zeppelin, uriah heep and jethro tull, but they all played to different audiences. only now do we hear wishbone ash, pink faries, and "old subharmonic" hawkwind..youve got to hear it to belive it... but progress and time move thngs on, or we'd all be l;istening to Mozart, the dub remix2..

personally, theres very little today to compare with our old heroes, greenday, nickleback and evanescence are ok, after a few doobies and a beer..but its not rock n roll...its not under the table *** kicking rock n roll like we got off george thorogood (not spelled right i know) deep purple and everyone else in the late 60's and 70's.

Pink Floyd, theyre the old boys, the masters, i left school with a copy of dark side of teh moon under my arm.. (and ive still got it) yes, i know its not elvis presley rock n roll... but its damn fine..

a few years ago we saw the aussie floyd in coventry..400 people packed teh back room at the general wolfe, and for two or three hours we, and i mean everyone in the room knew every word to every song...and we all sang along... fantastic gig. and a cracking band...

and im off to see roger do teh wall in birmingham...

First of all, they are beatles copycats... listen to their early stuff. They were trying to be john paul george and ringo, but they weren't so they went in another direction.

Zeppelin is better, so is Floyd, Allman brothers, Phish, Clapton.

They are great tho. I'm not dissin em, just dont think they are the greatest.

I understand why someone would think they are tho.

My fav song of their's is "cant you hear me knockin".

Great stage act, but not great musicians, and have you ever heard Mick Jagger sing live, they have to turn up the music to drown out his tuneless voice. Dire Straits - Now theres a group.

Music is to be enjoyed, but why make a contest of it? The greatest is irrelevant to me. I simply don't look at things that way.
