I'm for it. It's no different then ejaculating into a sock. It has the same potential for human life.

Abortions are going to happen. Why let the embryo go to waste? Imagine we could cure genetic diseases and possibly grow organs for people who need transplants. We will never know the full medical potentials of stem cell research until we catch up and get on the road of said research.
Can you imagine having an organ that is grown for you from your own cells? This would mean you do not need medication or run the risk of rejecting an organ from another donor. This would enhance human longevity and quality of life.
Good Luck and Take Care

Against.
If it is cloning in sheep it is cloning in humans. PERIOD.
Whether you plan on putting the cells in a uterus or not.
They destroy the embryo with in 10-14 days and are saying that it is not an embryo. By the way a year age they were saying it WAS an embryo.
Stem cells are thrown away everyday in this country when people discard the umbilical cords. Use them.
No treatment should be used that kills another person.
How selfish can they be?
(I know most clones don't live after birth if they make it that far. That doesn't matter. It is still life!)
Now morally I have to make sure that the medicine and treatments my family and I get don't involve these experiments and research. I hate that my tax dollars are going toward it. It sickens me.

To date, in spite of extensive private research, embryonic stem cells have not been found capable of healing anything. The problem is that embryonic stem cells tend to go wild and do not multiply into the kind of cells that researchers want them to.That is the reason that not one human being has ever been treated with embryonic stem cells: Those cells are known to create malignant tumors in lab animals.
Dr. James Sherley, associate professor of biological engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), “When you put them [ESC] in an environment where they can grow and develop, they make lots of different kind of tissues. This tumour formation property is an inherent feature of the cells. And all you have to do is simply inject them into an animal tissue — this happens at very high efficiency.” Currently, there are no solutions to this problem on the horizon. As Sherley put it: “And although some might say we can solve the tumour problem down the road, that’s equivalent to saying we can solve the cancer problem, and we may, but that’s a long time coming.”
On the other hand ,adult stem cells can, and are, being used to treat several different types of diseases.
There are already 15,000 adult stem cell therapies carried out in this country each year. Bone marrow derived stem cells are used in cancer and autoimmune treatment protocols, to replace or repair organs that are damaged by chemotherapy during cancer therapy. Adult stem cell therapy is being used to treat brain tumors, retinoblastoma, ovarian cancer, sarcomas, multiple myeloma, leukemia, breast cancer, neuroblastoma, renal cell carcinoma, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and other diseases. Thus scientists already have broad experience in many aspects of adult stem cell therapy.

For it. Embryonic stem cell research can cure diseases and even Nancy Reagan who is the epitome of the right wing lady supports stem cell. I think is a shame that we rather see people suffer than use leftover cells for good

Against. Destruction of a human life for scientific purposes is wrong, and Embryonic Stem Cell Research has produced nothing. No cures, no treatments, nothing. Adult stem cell research is much more effective, and no human life ends to harvest the cells.

For. The embryonic stem cell bill that Bush vetoed this year (HR810) had all the safeguards in place to make it ethically responsible. Embryonic stem cells are the basic building blocks of life, cells that will develop into any cell in the body, and are the key to learning more about life itself. Stem cell research could lead to cures for Parkinson's Disease, diabetes, numerous cancers, spinal cord injuries, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and ALS, which took my father 4 years ago.
The embryos that HR810 talks about using are "medical waste", embryos that would otherwise be discarded - thrown in the trash along with the hopes of the millions of people that they could be used to possibly cure.
edit:
Some people obviously need a little more information:
There are 4 types of stem cells:
-Totipotent - produced by the fusion of egg and sperm
-Pluripotent - descendants of totipotent cells and can differentiate into any human cell (these are the embryonic stem cells)
-Multipotent - can produce cells only of their closely related family (cord-blood stem cells)
-Unipotent - can produce one cell type (adult stem cells)
Adult stem cells are used to replenish dying cells and regenerate damaged tissues of the same type. They have been using bone marrow adult stem cells for over 30 years to treat leukemia and lymphoma. Since the late 1980s, cord blood stem cells have been used to treat a number of blood and immune-sytem related genetic diseases, cancers, and disorders.
Equating stem cell research with abortion is incorrect. The stem cells that researchers want access to are the excess ones from fertility clinics that will never be implanted and are slated for destruction. I am opposed to abortion, but not opposed to reducing medical waste. These embryos would have never existed without scientists creating them.

For. I do not understand the "moral issue" surrounding embryonic stem cell research. Ok, either the embryos are destroyed (usually incinerated), or they test on them and possibly someday cures will be discovered for alzheimers, parkinson's and MS, among other diseases.
