He is one of my favorite authors! His style of writing is amazing. Besides the books mentioned above (I'm not too big a fan of "Crash"...it was well written...but the subject matter was just way out there for me to really enjoy.) I recommend, "Hello America" which I read back in the 80s, it deals with an expedition to the U.S. after an ecological disaster wipes the place out. Also...have you seen the Spielberg film, "Empire of the Sun?" That film was based on Ballard's fictionalized autobiography, "Empire of the Sun." He wrote a follow up to it called, "The Kindness of Women" which I actually enjoyed more. The last book I read of his was "Millennium People" which deals with a rebellion in London...and so far that is my favorite. I haven't read his latest one yet....but it sits behind me in my pile of "books to be read."

Whilst I could make suggestions, I believe that reading is a very personal experience. Any suggestion I made would be different to that of others. You need to find your own way with novels. Try some, you ma be either surprised or disappointed, but at least that will be your decision and not based on other peoples so called recommendations.

He's written some good post apocalyptic books - The Drought, Hello America, The Drowned World are all good.

One of his latest books Kingdom Come sounds good.

I read Crash but didn't find it a particularly good read.
