I am assuming its our own dear English language. They need to learn phonics. My parents got Hooked on Phonics for my neice when she had trouble and it was great, but its expensive.

I do not know if you are the parents on the one having the problem, but I would ask the teacher for some good ideas.

It could be dyslexia. He might benefit from testing. My nephew has dyslexia, and his grandmother taught him to read braille and it works better for him. That might help.
Maybe you just need to break it down smaller, and help him understand what each letter can sound like. He needs phonetics first.
