Cindy, thank you for your provocative question. It would be refreshing to hear honest and sincere debate and discourse. Instead, there is an over abundance of "name-calling", "vulgarity", and "rage". Often we treat and speak to our dog better than the President of the United States or in reference to our Creator. Neither Democrats or Republicans are "idiots" though we sometimes behave as such and God is alive and well and still putting up with our "un-like" God behaviors.

These arguments go back for ages. People always have and always will argue about those things. Have you ever heard the phrase no RAP at the bar? No Religion, No Abortion, No Politics discussions because people will just start arguing and fighting.

That's why your parent told you to never discuss politics or religion. They are two hot button issues that everyone feels passionate about. Anytime you start in on one of these subjects it's just a matter of time til an argument breaks out.

because for a discussion you must have facts and examples to share not mud. majority of these people have no such thing. Its so much easier to bash then discuss. why take the time and effort to study and learn its only the future of us and our kids? I have reality tv shows to watch....
and to say its always been that way is incorrect before JFK the two sides would ride around on trains together and stop in towns to have debates of the issues. There was respect, now..........not so much.

3 things you never speak of in mixed company:
1) Religion
2) Politics
3) Sex
Its too personal a thing. Religion is a way of life for some that cannot be separated AT ALL, like living and breathing go hand in hand.
Politics is the atheists religion and sex just about offends us all.

LOL Have you EVER been able to discuss one or the other without it turning into an argument ANYWHERE????
I would be willing to have a discussion and hear the other person's side, but most people dont want to hear your side, so I dont even bother, I just sit back and laugh.

Because most(not all) people when discussing religion and politics feel that their way is the only way, and they're very closed off to the possiblity of even considering another person's point of view.
This is just my opinion tho.

Religion and politics are based on people's need to be on the 'winning' side; ergo, when people who are religiously and/or politically inclined are put into a discussion concerning opposing beliefs and/or bullcrap they fight with each other.

because they are extremely volatile subjects that people feel strongly about. a person's politics and religion is at core who they are. you can't challege a person's entire being and not expect an argument. as long as the argument is spirited, healthy, and doesn't evolve to petty, mean spirited cheap shots. that doesn't help anyone.

Most people are thick headed. They think that the way that they feel is the way everyone else should feel. No one cares to listen to what anyone else has to say. Everyone wants to talk and have their side heard.
If people would realize that everyone can have thir own beliefs and opinions we would be a lot better off.
