It's the oldest of republican rhetoric always spouted at election time to try and sway democrats to vote republican. Fact of the matter is; if you are in a lower to middle income tax bracket your taxes will probably not change. Republican tax roll backs were just offset by higher fee's for other government services like your DMV charges for registration and plates. What you may see happen is the tax breaks for the upper class rescinded and measures taken to see that they pay their fair share.

They will certainly try. Most bills contain a lot of unrelated items. They can, & propably will, attach tax increases to essential legislation. Bush's options might be sign the bill or shut down the govt.
Some tax cuts will expire without re-authorization, they are not permaqnent. The chances of this Congress passing the needed legislation are slim & none. I think Slin is on an extended vacation.

Actually the current tax cuts some of us are enjoying come with an expiration date and if congress does renew them the go the way of the dodo bird. Hence the tax rates will go up automatically since most of the Dems don't believe in them.

How do you think compromises work? When Pelosi and Bush both promised America they would "work together," what did that mean to you?

It means the Dems get to raise taxes, and Bush gets to allocate part of the money.

Depends on WHO we are raising taxes for. If we eliminate the absurd tax breaks for big business and the ultra wealthy, then revenue will increase, and the average person on the street won't be affected.
