ive just passed my driving test and been given a peugeot 205 junior 1988, ive always had to pull out the choke to start the car, and ive been driving with the choke out, when i find the bitting point my car shoots forward and sometimes stalls is this because of leaving the choke out and when should i put the choke back in

The choke only needs to be used for the first few minutes. Once the engine is slightly warm, it needs to be pushed in.

That is why the automatic choke came out. You are wasting fuel keeping the choke pulled.

Women used to get bad gas mileage before the advent of the auto choke as they hung their purses on the nice long knob.

Not exactly. The choke causes the mixture to be rich, it also reduces the throttle opening. When some engines warm up they will start to run rough if they are still on choke, most cars these days have no choke and people will never experience this. On my Honda generator and with my Husqvana chainsaw you have to ease the choke in as they warm or they will stall.

But what's going on here is that you also have a fast idle associated with the choke, which is normal, and you are being a bit harsh with the clutch, perhaps. You should be able to slip the clutch and move away smoothly with or without the choke out. You could always get someone else to try it, a quick way of finding out if it's you or the car.
