What you want to do is progress till the x is the only thing on one side of the equation; so

get the 7 on the other side by adding 7 to each side of the equation:
3x-7+7=26+7; this comes out to
3x=33

still with me? you have to do the same thing to both sides of the equation to keep it equal, so since you had to add seven to get rid of minus seven, you also have to add seven to the other side.

now you have 3x=33 and you need to get rid of the 3 multiplier, so now you will divide each side of the equation by 3:
3x /3=33/3, or
x=11

to check for accuracy, just plug your answer, 11, back into the original equation and make sure it works:
3times11 -7= 26.

see? it's not so hard when you take it step by step. in a little while you'll be solving these in your head.

blessings!

You add 7 to both sides: 3x - 7 = 26
+ 7 + 7

Here is the equation now: 3x = 33
What you have done to the 7 is that the sign in front of it (- 7) becomes a -7. When you add opposites (i.e. -7 + 7) it equals 0.

Then, you divide each side by 3: 3x = 33
3x divided by 3 = 1
33 divided by 3 = 11
Anything times 1 equals itself.
Answer: x = 11

Check: 3 x 11 - 7 = 26
33 - 7 = 26
26 = 26

First remember that an equation like this is a statement: 3 times something minus 7 equals 26.

So the first step is to add 7 to both sides of the equation:

3x - 7 + 7 = 26 + 7
3x = 33 ---> now divide both sides by 3
3x/3 = 33/3
x = 11

Now to check your answer plug 11 back into the equation as x

(3*11) - 7 =? 26
33 - 7 = 26
26 = 26 ---> answer checks out fine.

good i wish i could do these equations all day long...

ok

3x-7 = 26
+7 +7 add seven to both sides
3x = 33
/3 /3 divide three on both sides
x=11

to check, plug it in... 3(11)=33
33-7=26

step 1: add 7 to both sides
3x-7+7=26+7
step 2: then it should be 3x=33
step 3: divide 3x and 33 by 3
step 4: now it should be x=11
to check your answer...substitute 11 for x

3(11)-7= 26

first balance the equation - by adding 7 to both sides
that keeps it equal
3x-7+7 = 26 + 7
next
3x = 33
divide both sides by three

from those 2 equations 5x-2y=-a million and 10x-3y=a million, you are able to subtract the 1st equation from the 2d. right this is the thank you to do it: 10x-3y=a million - 5x-2y=-a million ______________ 5x-y=2 and based from this. you are able to do away with x from the equation by ability of subtracting it back on the only with (5x-2y=-a million) 5x-2y=-a million - 5x-y = 2 ___________ 0 -y = -3 from this you comprehend that y=3 you are able to now clean up for x, 5x-2(3) = -a million 5x -6 = -a million 5x=-a million + 6 5x=5 x=5/5 x=a million you are able to now try if the values are good. 10(a million) - 3(3) =a million 2d equation and 5(a million) - 2(3) = -a million 1st equation
