They didnt come out with any type of ranking system until about week 4 of the season. Teams that played non D1 schools werent allowed to be ranked until week 6 and had to start at the bottom of the polls. Ranking was determined by SOS, and Wins vs Losses instead of by name and history of the school or conference. Teams that havent played a top 25 opponent outside of conference during the season were penalized. Conference champions had to open the season at another conference champion from the previous season. Teams that ended the season ranked in the top 25 for 3 consecutive years had to try and schedule a home and home with a 2 schools out of conference with the same stats. Just really scheduling.

-I dont suggest a D1 team to play anyone lower, but theonly way they will move up in the rankings is if they beat other teams. This is also good for better for smaller schools because they can have the dream of beating the big guy. And when else are they going to get on TV?
-Conference championships are all about the money. I dont really understand what difference it makes if everyone does or doesnt tho
-If a win was a win then everyone would be playing the easiest schedule they could, college football would become boring. Now i do agree that a win by three should be considered a win by three whether its a last second field goal or a scoreless 4th
-The Heisman Race isnt about popularity, it might not always be the person with the best stats, but if they arent they are a top 5 player at their position that has lead their team the best.
-I think college football is fine, I like it the way it is.

First, Sam Houston State is a Division 1AA team, and it is a disgrace when a perennial power like Texas schedules a 1AA team on their schedule, but the 1AA teams get a big payout for playing 1A schools so that is why they want to play them.
Second, I follow the Pac 10. No way do I want to see a conference championship game. Pac 10 teams now are playing all nine opponents in conference schedule, don't need a conf. championship.
Third, as far as "style points", the 6 computer polls used by the BCS do not take into account the margin of victory, they adopted this three or four years ago. However, margin of victory certainly affects the human element of the BCS, the media and coaches polls.
What would make 1A football better? Less reliance on replay, it's making the games too long and it's murder to sit thru the decision-making times. Use it sparingly!

- i couldnt agree with you more on the first point you made. a D1 school playing a D1 school keeps the strength of schedule at a fairly high scale. But once a D1 school adds a D1-AA school to its schedule (such as Ohio State playing Youngstown State) next year, the strength of schedule drops rapidly. if you have a weak schedule, then i dont think you should be rated very high even if you are undefeated.
- i dont think there should be conference championship games at all. if there's a conference championship game, then your players have a higher chance of getting injured.
- I hate when teams run up the score. It doesnt show any class. If you're running up the score, all it shows is that, as a coach, you don't respect the other team. Also, it totally demoralizes opponents. If you're up by 20 late in the 4th quarter, don't keep throwing the ball to run up the score. Run the ball, let the clock run out.
So to answer your question, i DO think rankings should include "style points."
- and to address your last point there, i agree with ouchies_18. look at Troy Smith (so far the #1 player on the Heisman watch)...he doesnt have the best stats for his position, but he has shown great leadership to lead Ohio State to the amazing season that we've had. i don't think the Heisman race is a popularity contest. if you look at the top 5 in the race right now, 3 of the candidates are definitely surprises. the #3 candidate is Ray Rice of Rutgers. nobody expected him to be that high and good this year. #4 is Colt McCoy of Texas. No one expected Vince Young's freshmen replacement to make it onto the Heisman watch. #5 is Colt Brennan of Hawaii. Who expected the University of Hawaii QB to make it to the Heisman watch??? i agree he's having an amazing year (he leads the nation in passing efficiency, passing yards, passing TDs, and scoring), but he doesnt play for a big enough school to be a Heisman winner.
go here to see the Heisman watch...

those are my opinions on those points that you brought up.

Well I dont really agree with the conference championship game because the teams should be on top of their game at all times. having the best record i believe is the right way to go. you shouldnt be able to go through the whole season and be undefeated in your conference and play a team thats lost 3 games and have the chance of screwing up or injuring a player.

as for the rest of the stuff i agree

º Div1 Schools play Div1 Schools....PERIOD.

º Get RID of the conference championships. If you win the majority of your games and conf. games....you win the conf. They complain about giving studen-athletes too many games.

º USC, ND, Florida, Texas, Tenn, and all other schools run up the score because it matters to the media and the coaches poll.

º Heisman race is a Popularity contest....Deal w/it.

º And last but not least...eliminate the polls the first 4-5 weeks.

It's a scheduling matter. Because of the conferences they can't always go up against d1 schools.

The Heisman, a popularity contest? Garret Wolfe, the running back for Northern Illinois is third on a lot of people's lists. And we're talking about a popularity contest?
