So the other day I was bored so I took an IQ Test. According to the results, I have an IQ of 128. After I took the test, I was asked whether I was a male or female, my age and heritage (Female, 17, hispanic)...what does this have to do with my score? And also, was my score average?

The average score for an IQ Test is 100 times mental age/chronological age. (e.g. 100 * 21.76 / 17 = 128) I assume you took an online test, so the questions about you were probably asked for statistical reasons.

First of all, internet tests are not legitimate IQ tests, but they are fun. The reason for the age, gender, and heritage questions is that IQ is measured on a Bell curve. 100 is average, and it has to be 100 as the average score for another person of your gender, age, and culture. Otherwise you could be competing against a 30 yr old male with a Phd, who will likely score higher, not because of intelligence, but because of additional education. I'm surprised they didn't ask you your education level.

In order for an IQ test to be legitimate, it must be administered under the same circumstances for everyone. So it is normally administered in a clinical setting, by a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist who has been taught the proper procedures. That way, everyone included in the sampling that is used for the scoring, and the person taking the test, takes it under the same conditions.

Your score on the internet was above average. Not to pop your bubble, but everyone I know scores high on those. I've done several myself and hate to tell you how high I scored! LOL They are not generally timed, and that is another aspect that is different from a legitimate test. You can take all day to think about it, look things up, etc.

Anyway, if you had fun, I'm glad. That's about all those are good for.

Best Wishes,
Sue

Well, wether you are female/male and what race you are won't effect your score, but they might be tallying results and want that information for statistics.

However, it sounds like this site could have been a rip off.

http://www.iqtest.dk/main.swf try this test if you get time. It's based on a real IQ test that mensa uses, and it scaled appropriately to give you a fairly accurate score.

128 is very good on this test. It would put you in the top 3% of the population, or about 1 in 32 people achieve this score! :)

The person below is right that for the most accurate results you should see a psychologist; however, sometimes the situation is more stressful than in your home and this can effect your score. Since the test I have provided is based on ravens advanced progressive matrices, it is fairly accurate. The only difference of going to a psychologist would be that you'd have to pay about 500 dollars for it and their test is scaled a bit more accurately :)

Mensa administers a test for much cheaper than this but you don't even get to see your results. :p

Not bad, you are probably better than 80% of the population.
