HOLY CRAP! DO NOT LISTEN TO ADAIR. Violet gobys aka dragon fish ARE BRACKISH fish. They need alot of salt in the water aswell as they get 3 ft long and are picky eaters.

If i had another 20 gallon fish tank (i already have a 20 gallon high, 30 gallon, 37 gallon, and 10 gallon) i would probably make it a community tank with 4 mollies, 4 platys with a pair of pearl gouramis as the main focus. With livebearers follow the rule of 1 male to 3 females so one female wont constantly be harassed.
The gouramis get about 5 inches and will take care of any fry from the mollies and platys so the tank wont become overpopulated.

For a Fancy Addition that would be a real conversation starter
A fish reffered to as a "Dragon Goby" or a "Violet Goby" Would be a wonderfull choice , with Tetra's or Guppies , they look mean and ferocious but are very docile creatures....
I have one that is about 8 inches long it looks like a little dragon..it has lived peacefully for a year with a tank full of constantly reproduceing guppies. No losses.....I am only cautious about having bttom feeding carp or algae eaters around him.

Use Google.com to search for Violet goby , its well worth looking into.

Depending on how many fish you already have, you might try Dwarf Gouramis. Be forewarned though that they can be kind of sensitive to stress, and also prone to bacterial infection so be sure to quarantine them so you don't risk your current fishies. They are really pretty fish though. I love them - they are the only really colorful fish I can have with my large tetras, as they nip the fins of Bettas and guppies.

A pet store will be glad to tell you what breeds of fish will live well together. Try petsmart...the people there are really great!
