Sometimes, after a cartoon character is hit in the head with an oversized hammer, the character sees stars instead of birdies. If the script calls for birdies, then the director has to call “CUT!” they reset the scene, and start all over again.

It's like colourforms..remember them? Well they don't know where to go as they have no brains, they are flat, and not stupid or smart, just caricatures, so please cut them some slack. They made a movie about Fred Flinstone..and he was NOT the worlds best looker....animation is an art...and colourforms are fun. I think you are spot on w/ this...I wish more people thought like you. This is my first moment of relaxation all day...FINALLY an intelligent question. Not like.."What should my barbie wear to her homecoming..?" or "Is Nicole Richie too thin..?" or the "Who is hotter , this person or ....?" you catch my drift....Cartoons are a staple of childhood and beer drinking ball scratching double wide Americans for the most part...with exceptions. I in the final analysis, concur. Cartoons also take fine editing, dedicated animators, I have seen them at work at Hanna Barberra. A friend of mine was one. it takes actually more to put together a good cartoon than it does a B movie. Your point is well taken and I hope my answer serves its purpose in my answering it to the best of my ability.
Thank You
Lioncourt

You are directing the animators into making sure you are getting the approach that you want with the cartoon

Can you imagine being a director for scooby doo? You'd have to persuade him with expensive scooby snacks to do things... I'd imagine it's frustrating. ;)
