It may be due to any of the following:

1. There is a leakage in the radiator.

2. The engine is getting overheated due
to a leak in the hose pipe of the radiator.

3. The cylinder head need to looked
into for any possible compression loss.

4. The timing chain is erratic.

5. The water pump is not working
properly.

6. The engine may require overhauling.

It is leaking or evaporating.

Sometimes the leak is internal in the sense that it goes out of the exhaust system , this is true only when you have damage head gasket or hole in the wall so the coolant enters the combustion chamber, I am not sure if in your area you use antifreeze or some kind of conditioner with water. If so you can have condensate(from the exhaust pipe) analysed for the presence of the antifreeze or conditioner.

In some cars gasket failure can be detected simply by visual inspection. If this is the case then your low millage mystery is solved also, if you loose compression you loose millage(miles per litter or gallons).

The other place it can come out is at radiator cap by pass rubber seal and springg. This is a cheap fix and easy to check, when car is cold take the cap out and look at the seal, if torn or looks damaged or crushed, replace, if sprin looks dirty or has dirt in it wash the dirt out, if coolant is dirty change it and have the system flushed out. You may have to replace the whole cap.

Check hoses, Radiator, joints(for leaks), check gages on the panel while driving see if it is over heating. Do you have an over flow tank, check to see if it is cracked or leaking.

check underneath your car in the morning. do you see a puddle of green liquid? if you do, then your radiator is leaking or worse, some other part of the cooling circuit is.

Otherwise your coolant could be evaporating. You may not have fixed the radiator lid back on tight. If your coolant leaks a bit, then the engine tends to overheat, and your coolant vaporises/ leaks even faster. So I'd suggest you take it to a service station as soon as possible. if it is a radiator leak, it can be brazed at least once. if it is a second leak, replace the radiator. It should cost you anywhere between 2500 to 5000Rs. for a maruti

Leakage in cooling circuit. Inspect visualy under the hood for leak traces. Even radiator leak or radiator drain valve partially open cannot be ruled out.
