NO breast fed babies do have BM's less. It's because nearly 100% of the breast milk is viable nutrients that the baby soaks into their bodies when they digest it. That leaves less waste and less BM's. Try reading "What to expect the first year", it explains all the stuff. Or check with your doctor! My doctor told me that when I went through the questions for caring for our newborn towards the end of my pregnancy.

I agree with Angie's answer, from my own personal experience.
My baby was breastfed for a short time, only til he was about 3 months, and then after that was exclusively formula-fed til we added solids. He's 18 months now. Anyway he's always pooped A LOT. Sometimes as many as 3x a day.
On the other hand, my friend's baby who is the same age was exclusively breastfed - and she was ALWAYS worried about him being constipated because sometimes he wouldn't go for 2 or 3 days (and then when he finally pooped it was a huge diaper-busting one).
Edit: LOL as I was typing that just now, my son just pooped for the 3rd time since he got up. :-/
Maybe it's just different for every kid; I don't know.

the reason why breastfed babies tend to have less bowel mov'ts is because breastmilk breaks down differently than formula fed babies. There is more waste(stuff that makes poop) in formula than in breastmilk.

Breastmilk is "all natural" and therefore easier to digest then is formula. Meaning less waste. Also the reason breastfed babies feed more often because the milk is digested faster. My son is formula fed and I do NOT regret that decision at all the thought of breastfeeding was not appealing to me with my son who is 5 months old or my daughter who is 13yrs old. Neither one of them has ever had issues with constipation.

Actually, when breastfed, babies don't poop as often as when formula fed, BUT when they do poop, it sure does fill the entire diaper! And it is more runny.

Probably because they are misinformed.
You are correct! Breast milk is a natural laxative and it is very rare for a breast fed baby to be constipated! Formula is harder for babies to digest and because it is harder on their stomach they usually have harder, smellier, and less stools than a breastfed baby.
I hope this answers your question!

Yes, they should and usually do. Formula fed babies tend to get constipated.
