People get this wrong all the time. An American is anyone form the Continents North or South America. We get lazy and call ourselves Americans thinking were alone. We should be saying we are U.S. Americans.

Someone who was born in the United States, speaks Merican without an accent, although we do cut some slack on some South Merican accents like those from Georgia or Alabama or Texas, someone who's generally a Republican loves Bush and Billy Graham, watches Dr. Phil and Oprah religiously, doesn't vote much but complains about who the others voted into office.

An American is someone who believes in our country and what it stands for. Someone who is willing to stand up for what they believe in, someone that has the ability to express an opinion, yet understand that it isn't necessary that everyone else agree. Americans believe in the right to live life they way they chose, not the way that is chosen for them. Those are Americans, they don't have to be born on American soil, just believe in the American dream...............that is an AMERICAN.
