Even if it was a "glandular" problem, there are medications to keep it under control. I think it's a combination of lazy and psychological. The lazy is self explanatory. The psychological, is they may feel like they have no control of their lives. They can control their bathing habits, some do it with food, or alcohol or drugs. They choose bathing or the lack of, it's really a stupid thing to do. It's offensive, and I think it should be something you can loose your job over. If the Wal-Mart execs can give Wal-Mart employees demerits for being late to work (which can result in a termination) then I don't see why someone who chooses not to bathe or chooses not to go to the doctor for medication to curb the gland problem, then I shouldn't have to spend 9 hours a day smelling them.
I have walked out of restaurants, stores, etc. and complained to the management. If more people stood up and complained and made it well known that we will not sit by and let you offend us with your body odor maybe more people would change, maybe not. I will say something, I always have and I will continue. Specifically I don't want a doubt in anyones mind that it could possibly be me.

I have a sister who was like this for a long period of time. With her it was depression. She didn't feel good about herself or what was going on in her life and had no motivation to improve any of that. She still has periods were she falls back into the same pattern but I think she is getting to the point where she can appreciate being who she is and knows that she will only feel better about herself by obtaining a certain standard of cleanliness.
Some people feel it is just laziness...I have to disagree. It was either the way you were raised or you have some major underlying issue that you may or may not be aware of.
Plug your noise and smile, there's not much you can do unless they are a close friend or family member. Tell them because you owe it to them to tell them there's a problem!

I honestly think they cannot smell themselves. I too work with a woman who at times wreaks so bad I think I am going to gag. She is a nice person and I do not wish to hurt her feelings but either she does not wear any deodorant or never takes a shower or just has really bad body odor. How do you tell her without hurting her. She is the standing joke around here no one wants to be near her. We thought of nicely writing her an anonymous note and leaving her a can of Right guard but she would be so......... embarrassed she would quit that is the kind of gal she is.

I am one of those people. Last week I couldn't stand my own stench and yes certain creases felt very crusty. Sorry if you had to smell me. I just don't always have the time to bathe.

Maybe they get used to the smell? I used to know someone who always smelled like sweat; it turned out that his washing machine was broken and he was washing clothes by hand. Maybe the people at your work bathe but their clothes don't get fully clean.
The other end of the spectrum is the people who smell like they bathe in perfume, which is just as bad.

O worked with a lady who smelled so bad, when the boss asked her about it she said it was gladular problem. If eventually got so bad they had to build her her own office! And when she quit, her chair had to be thrown away and the office never did smell right.

I think after a while, they don't smell themselves. (which is a shame.) It's kind of like cigarette smokers; a non-smoker can smell cigarettes from a mile away, but the average smoker is used to it and that dampens their senses.
Which is why people in general really need to make themselves more aware of their surroundings, and try to be a little more respectful.
