Actually, there have been cases in which people have been threatened for voting a certain way. It wasn't at an exit poll, but the FBI's currently investigating cases in Virginia in which people got phone calls threatening them if they voted a certain way. Many people feel that who they voted for is a personal matter. Perhaps they feel this way out of a fear for being judged by other people who do not agree with their beliefs. I also personally know some people who don't take exit polls because they are not all that accurate anyway. Like in 2004, when they were predicting that John Kerry would win the Presidential election.

we had 562 people participate in the citizen one we just did out of about 1500 people who showed up to vote. They even signed their addresses and name in our polls books. The ballots were secret...many were happy to participate and thanked us. It was more an issue of them rushing so fast that made it hard to reach more people rather than reluctance to participate. Most people have never been approached by an exit poller. Please read my account and maybe start some in your area to double check the vote.

I'm not afraid, but nobody has a right to know how I voted, and I'd like to keep it that way. Also exit polls are a bad idea, they skew the election and I don't want to participate.
