It depends...a person of integrity would feel a moral responsibility to share in the commitment of raising a child they helped bring into the world.

Some people (men and women BOTH) just have no ethics or character and they simply walk away clean. An "on to the next one" attitude.

Then, an innocent child is left without a mom or dad for guidance, love, and yes- Financial support.

A court order did Zero for me, my ex moved to TX & worked "under the table" to avoid child support garnishment and the IRS taxes.

Funny, I was hurt more that he left my son to grow up fatherless than I was about the money he never sent. My son's 16th b'day w/ his new drivers license...and not a dad in sight to share his joy or explain cars, nothing. Just Absolute SILENCE from the father he SO wanted acceptance and approval from.

... it breaks my heart knowing my son internalizes that rejection- every single day- and I am helpless to fix it.

Yes. As soon you take him to the Friend of the Court, and let them handle the problem.

Is there a court order? If so, have the courts collect it, if not, get an attorney and get a court order.
