My inlaws live there & they can't understand it either. The money would come from the lottery, so nobody has to pay for it. If my state had that chance we'd have voted YES 100%

Wow! I didn't realize how many rude, ignorant, people that were on here at 1 time. I totally agree. There is a surplus of funds in the lottery money. Anyone with 1/2 a brain would know that. And they say the uneducated would be voting! Ignore the stupid comments. Maybe you should contact your state reps & try to get that on the ballot for the next session. It's not bribery it's an incentive to get people to vote. It doesn't mean they would go vote for just anyone, it might get people to get more involved.

Are you crazy? I live in AZ and I voted NO. Why would tax payers, who are the ones that go and vote, want to pass a measure that would only encourage the uneducated and uninformed to come to the polls and dilute their votes? The idea of a lottery for voting is absolutely ridiculous. And to say nobody has to pay for it is ignorant. Money doesn't come out of thin air. Lottery money goes to the schools, so that would mean that 1 million dollars would be taken from the schools to pay the lottery winner. Even if we did vote it in, I'm sure it would come back challenged as unconstitutional. You cannot pay someone for their vote.

Well, your state obviously doesn't value its electorate.

1 million dollars just doesn't show up-- the lottery players would have paid for it.

The whole idea is stupid-- it would simply cause people to vote any old way just to get a chance at 1MM dollars. Its ignorant views like yours that would make it a waste.

Voting is a civic duty that requires some thought, common sense and due dilligence. I don't want people randomly marking their ballot just for a chance at some unclaimed lottery money.

The voters made the right and wise choice.

Did you read the article of course there will be some people that are still registered after they die. What do you think the next of kin calls the registrar of voters to say oh by the way grand pa passed away take him off the voter rolls. What you are doing troll is taking the next step to say that someone will cast a vote for these dead voters. Show me one study that shows this happening if not crawl back under your bridge and wait for goats to cross.

It could also be looked at as "bribing" people to vote, which goes against our principles. If it were on my ballot, I would have voted against it too. Even if the money came from the lottery, that money is earmarked for other programs instead of raising taxes. It would have been waste and abuse of the system.

I too am surprised that this was voted down. I can understand the theory behing voting NO, but really, guess they did not want the uneducated who are clueless just trying to win the million...either way, I like the idea of it. Something has to be done about voting, afterall last year's American Idol finals had more votes than the previous Presidential Election. This is supposed to be a democracy, not a shared dictatorship.

You know how many uneducated people that would attract to the polls? in the end voting participation may go up, but the quality of the educated voter would go down, much to the detriment of the entire state.

I don't want people voting who have to be bribed with a lottery ticket, so I would have voted no.
