I was 13 when I started wearing make-up. I wore everything, BUT in MODERATION and it just enhanced the natural features. I did not and still don't (at 20) wear heavy eye makeup or lipstick. As long as you aren't over-doing it and it looks natural, then go for it. :)

I wore all that when I was 13. First of all, make-up will not age your skin, the sun will so wear your sunscreen! It will however make you appear older than you are. In my opinion, I think that is why parents and other adults don't want their "little" girls wearing make-up too early, it makes it seem like you're more grown-up than you are.

I do agree however that it should be done tastefully. You shouldn't look like a painted up hooker. Other than that I think it's fine.

With all the advancements they have made in cosmetics, the mineral rich power foundations that cover blemishes etc., without having to cake on concealer and then foundation then on top of that powered to set it all. This generation has an opportunity to learn to apply make-up in an enhancing way and still have the coverage for the little blemishes that arise. I know I would have loved something like that in my early teens.

All this aside I'm sure you're aware that our opinions mean nothing, it's how you feel about yourself; if you feel good and like the way you look then have fun with it.

Because makeup on a young person makes them look older. If you look older, then those older than your age group will assume you are older. If they assume you are older, then they can put you in uncomfortable situations that you may not know how to handle. The older a person gets, you gain experience.

For instance, when you were 5 years old, a 10 year old would be so much smarter than you and would understand the hazards of playing in the street.

So, with each year you get older, you get smarter and people will find it harder to take advantage of you, make you look silly, put you in danger, whatever.

If you look 18 with makeup, then those other adults 18 or older will think that they can entice you into doing things that you are not wise to. Guys 18 years old have tons of experience more than a guy your age, and kissing would not be a big thing to the 18 year old - he won't stop at kissing. He will try to take you beyond what you are comfortable at because he will assume that you know what you are doing.

Another thing too, is that sometimes if the makeup is not applied in a flattering way, then a girl can look "cheap", which means that she doesn't care about herself and she will do ANYTHING that some guy wants her to do. That she lacks "class" or "quality".

The reverse happens when a woman gets much older. Makeup then helps to hide the flaws (lines, wrinkles, blemishes). So, makeup can make an older woman look younger!

So I would suggest your NOT stopping totally with the makeup, but just lighten it up so that we can still tell you are young, but that you are respectable. Use techniques that flatter you; highlight your eyes with powder for eyeliner (to soften), and light shades of powder in the upper lid area. Lipstick soft and close to your natural shade. No need for blush at the cheeks. You are young enough to have good skin tone.

One last word is this: Keep it in mind that you are spreading chemicals on your skin and skin is very absorbant. Don't believe all of the heavy advertising that these chemicals are "natural" or "not tested on animals" means nothing. Keep your face as clear of chemicals as possible because allergies and scaring can develop. Just keep your skin clear of oils and grease with stuff like Proactive or Mary Kay or Beauticontrol cleansers, then just lightly tap on the makeup.

Good luck!

Do you realize that make up will ruin your young beautiful complection, especially if you are not cleaning off your face right. I didn't start wearing makeup until I was 16, and even then I didn't wear foundation, foundation clogs your pores and causes pimples and blackheads, and who wants that. My suggestion to you is to go for a more natural look, light colored eye shadow and mascara, just enough to bring out your eyes, that's all you really need if you are persistent about wearing make up. But I do agree 13 is very young to start wearing make up.

no, i don't think its too young at all. I am 12-going-on-13 and I wear mascara, eye shadow, foundation, blush, eyeliner, everything. Just kus you wear makeup doesn't mean your slutty or anything like that. It just depends on what shades you wear. If you CAKE on eyeliner or use silver eye shadow everyday, then you aren't gonna look 13, and chances are you'll look like you can't put on makup.

So stick with light pinks or browns, stuff that looks youthful and good with your skin color.

When you say "people" do you mean adults or kids your age?

Your parents prolly think your growing up to fast, but as for kids your age, or kids in your school, they are prolly just jelous, honestly, I think that's a good thing! It means people wanna be you and that you look good when you put on makeup, too good. I would simply ignore them.

they will eventually get over it. =)

ps. my mom was the one who gave me all my makeup at age 11! (to the other people who said their mom's would have killed them if they used eyeliner & mascara)

Try to stay looking as natural as possible. But if you can't help yourself and you feel like you have to wear make-up, try to keep it simple with just mascara and natural colors for your lips. Like you can wear lip-gloss and maybe out-line it with a light colored lip-liner. Foundation is good to cover up blemishes, but try to use one that doesn't cause you to get pimples. I think Noxema make those, I don't remember. But you can ask in a Rite-Aid, Duane Reade, whatever other stores where they sell health and beauty aids. I think the best age to wear eyeliner is after your sweet 16th birthday. Because that's a special age and you can celebrate by giving yourself a make-over by adding a new look with the eyeliner. So I don't think you're old enough to wear eye-liners, because they make you look older than what you are, unless you want to have a "punk" look, if that's the style you want. But don't make it to thick, keep it thin. But you are too young. You're sending the wrong message to most boys. You don't want to ruin your reputation. Make-up, is used for making you look certain ways or cover up something...depending on what you're looking for. There are many ways/styles of wearing them. I'm sure there are magazines that can help you decide how to wear make-up, if that's what you want to keep on doing.

I DO AGREE THAT YOU ARE TOO YOUNG FOR TOO MUCH MAKE-UP. MAKE-UP WILL RUIN YOUR EYES & FACE BECAUSE OF CERTAIN CHEMICALS. But if you choose to not listen to us and not break the habit you started, then make sure you don't over do it. Make sure you don't sleep with make-up on, it'll ruin your skin, may cause pimples. Stay away from eye-liners and eye-shadows, you are too young. But you're the right age for just wearing lip-gloss...that's it.

If you keep on wearing make-up and you do it on a daily basis, the only thing you'll end up with is a ghostly face whenever you don't put anything on, you're gonna look very sick or dead. You're becoming a make-up slave and you're way too young for that, especially now that your skin is still nice. Try to wear less, or no make-up at all.

I use to be like you....but i was told to wear it. but honey when you get older thats a better time...your wearing down your pretty youthful skin, and you dont want to age fast...what you need to do is treat your skin on the outside instead of things to cover it up...i think eyeliner and lipgloss are okay for special occasions ..but the main thing you should be doing at that nice age is keeping your skin looking great without the use of a bunch of makeup~

ok... i'm 18 and I don't even wear that much make-up... i do eyeshadow and mascara at the most. I don't even own foundation.

no matter what you may think.. you are still very young... and your skin doesn't need that much crap on it! you'll grow out of it eventually anyway...

but if you *have* to wear some.. why not just try a tinted moisturizer and some mascara or something from time to time?

im 14 and i jus use eyeliner. i dont wear mascara, or even use lip gloss...be careful if u use all kinds of make up..cuz some people might see that as being sl**ty sometimes...and people and guys usually like to see a girls face, and most guys prefer girls w/ no make up at all...but jus dont use any more than you need
