Excellent!
People are all for special perks and programs until it directly effects them in a negative way.
Here's how you explain it to the young college crowd: How about if we take the average grade for the class and give that to everyone regardless of whether or not they studied, did their homework, or even showed up for class? Then, black and Hispanic students get a 10% bonus for simply being black. Do you think that's fair?
I haven't heard one logical argument from any one of them.

Are you asking 'Do you want a surgeon who was accepted into Med School because of Affirmative Action?'
Well if he/she passed med school exams, they are a doctor either way, So it would not bother me
or
Are you asking 'Do you want to go to a hospital that offers surgery to patients based on a formula like Affirmative Action?'
Well NO
I would like to have my surgery as soon as possible
Too much is expected of Affirmative Action
AA is not going to change the fact that most public schools suck
The public schools where poor performing minorities (blacks, Hispanics) are horrible and AA CANNOT change that fact
No one is upset that there is no AA for Indian or Asians
Allow me to make a generalization: In (sub)cultures where a good elementary education is valued and maintained in the community, there is little need to ensure quotas in higher education
Generally, white, Asian, and Indian Americans have reserved a higher value on education in their gentrified communities. If other minorities were interested in education, they would do the same things: be active in their children's lives, be active with their children's schools, help their children with their homework, read to their children, take their children to the library, etc.
Expecting Affirmative Action to replace these practices is culturally damaging. IMO minorities have relied on the myth of AA instead of holding their own selves and their own communities accountable
Now that AA is defeated in Michigan, it really won't change anything in the way of college admissions of minorities.
There is plenty of room in Michigan's state universities for ALL students that quailfify and apply
Mot of my doctors are Jewish or Indian

I am amazed that so many people do not know what Affirmative Action means.
Put simply it means that a person is awarded a job because of the color of their skin not their qualifications.
Anyone that would prefer to undergo a major surgery by an underqualified (sometimes not qualified) person for the purpose of honoring civil liberties deserves exactly what they get.
Then they would expect the tax payers to foot the bill for their funeral!
Unreal!

NO! President Harry Truman was the" affirmative action president" who made it possible for General Colin Powell and others to rise in the ranks.

I would feel slightly less uncomfortable with that than I would voting for someone who made it through Yale because they had a rich, white daddy.
