Its fine. In many cases some novels are wrongly classified as Young Adult novels simply because the characters are tweens and teens. Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy is a serious bit of literature and in some cases its even in the children's section! Anyways...kid books are good because there's nothing really serious about them. The Harry Potter series for example. Though the later volumes deal with more serious subjects there's still that awe that you feel when you enter that magical world. Some older folks will hate you for it and try to make you feel guilty. Reading young adult fiction is just one way we grown ups try to reconnect with a childhood which seemed far too long but in retrospect was far too short.

I am 59 and I still read young adult fiction. It's not the only thing I read, by any means. I read a wide variety of books, fiction and nonfiction. I read books that are informative, books that are inspiring, books of instructions on how to do one thing or another... What I like about young adult fiction is that a lot of it is quite well written, yet not too demanding. I can read these books when I'm tired, when I need to relax, and yet I want something interesting and not boring. Some of them deal with themes that remain relevant throughout life.

Not weird at all! I still read YA stuff all the time. A lot of "adult" fiction gets hung up on sex or being literary, while the focus in YA books tends to be on telling a good story. You shouldn't feel bad or weird for liking whatever books you want to like.
PS. Harry Potter is technically YA fiction, and how many "adults" are reading that?

Honey, I'm 36 and love to read them. When I visit the library, I make sure to stop in the Young Adult section to find out what the latest titles are. I usually find some really good ones. I fell in love with the Georgia Nicholes(sp?) diaries. They are so funny. She's this teen in England and goes to an all girls school. She talks about her boy problems and her insane parents. And of course her homicidal cat Angus. He's always causing trouble.
I also just recently read Imani All Mine. If you've read Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye you'll like Imani All Mine. but unfortunately I read so many books in a week including text books that I can never remember the authors name.

I am 27 and still read young adult fiction. They are nice to read because they are easy reads and there are some awesome authors out there. And now they really don't differ that much from adult fiction.
There is no reason not to read whatever you like to read.

I'm 43 and still read young adult novels. Sometimes I prefer them to more "grown-up" books!
If adults didn't read fiction written for a younger audience, I don't think JK Rowling or CS Lewis would be the household names that they are. :)

Yes, I still read young adult fiction and I was 18 long time ago. There is a trilogy from Isabel Allende which is really entertaining. It doesn't matter if what you read is appropriate for your age as long as you enjoy it. There are so many people that does not read at all, so please keep doing it!

I read quite a lot! One of my favorite authors is Terry Pratchett and I enjoy his material for the younger audience, but I find it much the same as his adult stuff. Then I don't think we ever truly grow up! Whatever you read does it matter so long as you enjoy what you're reading? I'm 42 by the way!!

of course I do!!!! I am much older than you but enjoy this genre. The standard of books published for the young adult market is so high. Two of my real favourites are Junk by Melvin Burgess and Noughts and Crosses by Mallory Blackman. If you haven't already read them do try them! The series called His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman is awesome too!
