...the carefully administered bureaucracy involved with adopting a child and the willy-nilly anyone can have an entire brood of children thing? I do not mean to imply that there should be a breech of civil liberties wrt having children. I simply find it odd that it's so easy for any person, no matter how unfit, drugged out, etc. to have a baby, but people who are obviously loving, caring people must wait forever and go through hell to adopt a baby.

So -- how do you feel about the differences?

For perspective's sake, I'd also like to add that the animal control bureau carefully screens each perspective pet owner before they allow the person to take the pet home. Heck - in some places, they even come to check out your home to make sure it's pet-friendly.

I would like to repeat for emphasis:

Logically, you cannot order control over a woman's ability to have children in a liberated country. No one has the right to "play God" and decide who can and cannot procreate. On the other hand, I definitely think the adoption process should be sped up, but also understand why it's not. My sister was adopted from an imprisoned heroin-addict, and it took two years for it to be official. So many foster parents and natural born parents are unfit that these centers would not dare have it on their conscience if they gave a child to a worse home... that is why they are such difficult, lengthy interview-like processes.

It only works that way if your not a rich gay person. If you have lots of money there is no line. As for people who don't deserve to have children, that is a huge problem magnified by the fact that the more children you have the more welfare you get. I fully agree you should get at least the background check to have children as you do dogs!

Lawyers and governments found a way to keep a lot of people employed with adoptions.

One we can control (adoption) and one we cannot (sex leading to pregnancy). Since we see the problems that arise from not being able to control who has a kid, we step in and do what we can to control who becomes a parent through adoption.

That is a very interesting point. And scary to consider that the government might one day want to regulate that too.
