I just can't think of what makes a man say, "Hmmm... I think I'm just going to grow a mustache today, shave everything around it, and keep it that way forever."

It makes us feel more manly -- but there is a down side too: we look older.

Sometimes too, the man wears a beard or mustache for so long it sort of becomes his trademark.

Having a mustache over a beard? A mustache is much easier to maintain. And some guys can grow better, thicker mustaches than they can beards. We pretty much accentuate the positive.

Having a mustache or beard helps keep us warmer in the wintertime too -- especially in cold, windy climates. Lots of guys like to grow a beard during hunting for this reason.

My hubby has actually always wanted to grow a beard, so at the age of 18 or 19 or so, when his facial hair was growing regularly, he started experimenting with facial hair and has been wearing one form of beard or other since then.

In his case, it is because he thought he had too much of an innocent-looking baby face which he personnally did not like. He has more self-esteem since he grew a beard and I must say I saw him without one on a few occasions (shaving accidents and whatnot) and I agree that he looks a whole lot better WITH a beard than without!

I am not certain as to what reasons other guys would, except for modern fashion purposes (like shaving one's head when you are not balding.... why?)

Regarding the keeping of certain shaving patterns forever, men typically think how they shave makes them more attractive, similar to how a woman wears make-up or how both sexes wear jewelry and watches. It's simply an accessory to our style. We don't change our face until we change our style. Everyone knows that most men often refuse change as well. Worst case scenario but fairly honest for many... men are also a little lazy sometimes. Besides, when a man follows a routine and shaving is part of it... why change it, we have more fun things to worry about!?

Personally, I on the other hand listen to my wife and then ask her girlfriends for their opinions about my facial hair later. If everyone agrees to her opinion about my appeal with a certain style of goatee or sideburns... they stay until someone says I'm ugly for wearing them.

What also promotes most men's shaving habits is true for many of us. Scarring and troubled skin areas help us decide just how to shave. I for instance have scars from many years of hockey on my chin (and other areas of the face), therefore I have the goatee. Also, when I do shave, I break out severely on my cheeks and neck... therefore I have chops. But, because I look bad with a beard, I shave my neck and deal with it.

Because this works and I am found to have a certain amount of appeal with my facial hair... I have had the same face for over 8 years! And no, it's not going to change for a while.

Shaving is a pain. Plus, it does genuinely look good on people.

I suppose that such is the habit of shaving, that it's actually quite a change to make to suddenly change your facial hair after growing a beard for several years.

Many men might use the idea of growing facial hair becuase they hate to shave, it leaves burns, scars: if cut, or just a pain in the butt every morning. Though many men might just believe they look good and you know men they are very stubborn >:O what they like they will keep no matter what people say. My brother used to have acne scars himself and used his facial hair to prevent people from seeing them, it sure is a good idea.

I have a full beard and love it. I ould have to shave everyday if I didn't wear it. With the beard I only trim the length twice/month and trim the excess hair (upper cheeks & upper neck) maybe twice/week, and never have to use shaving cream. I just dry shave the touch up spots.

Short answer : Low maintenence. I love it. But I guess I was blessed with a full beard.

Because if my boyfriend didn't shave, he would look like an old dirty homeless guy.

i think guys with facal hair are pretty hot. Exspecially a gotee. mmmmmm.
it's just like what weatherman said, personal choice, I've seen guys change the Style of their facial hair, in the same way I have not had my natural hair color in five years, It keeps changing.

More to the point, why do most men choose to cut it off?

Some guys just look loads better with some hair on their faces. It's the owner's opinion that counts.

Apart fro the koo looks abt Moustache.....i believe that by growing a moustache u give room to infections in your body. Its not good for health. Wen u eat, ur food gets into it. Now the pollution is the world is enough for a problem. The chemical released from air will settle on ur moustache and wen u eat u are unintentionally poisoning ur food. Leave it clean and be healthy. Wat's more important than good health.
