What is the difference between a Natural hat trick with a regular hat trick?

A natural hat trick occurs when a player scores three consecutive goals, with nobody else scoring in between their goals, whereas a regular hat trick is three goals at any point during the game.

In a San Jose-Edmonton game last month, Ryan Smyth and Jonathan Cheechoo both had natural hat tricks in the same game. It was the first time since 1919 that players on opposing teams got natural hat tricks in the same game.

Regular Hat Trick - 3 goals in a game by one player.

Natural Hat Trick - 3 goals CONSECUTIVELY in a game by one player. No other scoring in between (yes, that includes both opposition and own team scoring, though most do not recognize goals scored by the opposition as interfering with the natural hat trick)

I've had many Hat Tricks... but I don't believe I've ever had a "natural"!

Craig's answer is great! Natural hat trick your name appears on the score sheet 3 consecutive times, regular hat trick there are names between yours.

natural Hat trick is when you score a goal 3 consective times in a game and noone else has before you. a hat trick is when you get 3 goals in a game. (yeah please don't forget the gordie howe hat trick. A goal, an Assist and a great fight.)
