I'm sure I'll be called a tree hugger, but I'm curious what others think on this issue
I grew up in one of the biggest cities in my state.. basically a concrete city-I moved out of the county to a nice little city that has a lower population, it still has all the stores, restraunts, car dealerships, and all that a big city has but a lot of open beautiful land. Well since they have no where to build there anymore, they've decided to come to this city and make it the "New (city name) -so now all our open land is now going to be gone. What gets me the most is some people own 3 malls they built in the county from me, and they came here and saw all this open land and decided it was the best place to build the biggest mall in the state, and they are going to do it too.. are we going to destroy all of our environment to just try and make everything bigger and better.. the population here is not that big that we need the biggest mall in the state.

It's one thing to build for a growing population it seems to me another to build to just see how much bigger and better you can build something

You have a very good point and you dont have to be a tree hugger to appreciate it either. Find others in your community that feel the way you do, get local government on your side, talk to state / federal government, talk to the media. Let the builders know that there will be a backlash to unwise building. Maybe they won't stop the building but perhaps they will be wiser about it, adding green space and being more careful of the enviroment. It's all you can do, short of buying up the land yourself.

Well i feel you indeed,Money is all this, buildings everywhere surely removes the beauty of nature,in another 20 to 40 years to come bare Land will be rare and very expensive, because there will be man made things like man made laws,Man will hunger for power and Land of virgins which is untouched and turn it to a concrete jungle and polution,so my friend cherish nature before it will disappear, peace

This is a perfect example of growth in a small town.

It does not matter anymore how far out you move it is going to catch up with you sooner or later, unles you purchase a lot of acerage. Then you have to worry about someone taking it from you!

As long as the rural land-owners keep selling the builders the land, they'll keep building on it.
