It's not that they're mean. You can't call a cat 'mean' or 'evil' since it doesn't have the mental strength to comprehend its behaviour as a human sees it. They follow their instincts and their natural traits, that's all.

Besides, cats can bite and scratch at any age. It's not something they do just because they're older, they do it because they have a reason. But don't expect to understand it. Humans understand cats just as much as they understand us. However, their behaviour is somewhat similar to ours. When we grow up and we're almost adults, when we yearn for freedom and the confirmation of our independance and our parents always get in the way smothering us... don't we do the same as cats do?

Think twice before judging your pets (lol). ;)

Lets look at your question the same way as a baby or teenager. Both babies and kittens are cute but when they grow up they are mean as heck. Cats are marking their territory. Teenagers can get mean as being violent. I don't know about the teenagers bite at someone.

Some of it has to do with the way the animal was treated as a kitten.Parents play a big part also. If the mother or father were wild the cat will grow up to be a little wild.

Cats are just jerks. It's true- it's their primal instincts. Dogs are much more social animals as they are pack animals by nature, and they respect each other in a different way. A cats idea of playing with something is trying to kill it. They haven't lost those instincts in domestication. House cats behave exactly like tigers. The only difference is that they're smaller, and thus less bold around much larger humans. They're OK as pets, but don't expect them to be your friend.
