A USB what? Flash drive, external drive, etc. It will depend on the program. Dos programs will work, some windows programs will also work. Anything that requires an entry in the registry will not work.

There are some programs that will run, while there will be others which will not. Basically when you install a program, they also put information on the registry of the computer you installed it on.
So when you copy a program to a usb, you copy the files of the program, but not the registry stuff.

If you just clik and dragged the icon from the desktop to your usb disk then you have most probably only copied the shortcut to the program to your usb disk. In this case, it will not work on the other computer because you havent copied the program, just a shortcut to it.
If you want to copy a program to another computer then you will have to install it on the other computer the same way you installed the program on your own computer.
I hope i havent confused you. best of luck!

It is not the USB that you load the program on, it is a jump drive. To do that would not be possible because you would still need to load the program onto the computer that you plug the jump drive into.

What you need are portable applications that run on a USB flash drive, like portable firefox, abiword etc. They will work on any computer that has a USB slot. Here's a couple of links:
