I`ve only raced in the past as a hobby, with too many realistic responsibilities to pursue racing as a carreer.I do realize that its about like finding a needle in a hay-stack to be able to have a carrer in racing. But I do believe you can "will' yourself into anything if you want it bad enough and are willing to work hard and do what it takes to achieve that goal.I`m sure there are many different trails that lead in the "direction" of being able to go racing or at least a chance to see if I have what it takes,i just don`t know which trail that is.

Go to an approved auto racing school, then star racing in scca move up to a regional series. If your still interested take that70,000 and buy yourself a seat for 2 races on a the pro level. Not a cheap sport, your only hope is that you know or are friends with someone who works for a large corporation. I hate to be the one who busts your bubble, but if you have been dirt track racing for 15 years and no one has approached you for a test or for a higher ride then maybe you are not cut out for porfessional racing.. It seems you are a pretty good mechanic you could possibly get a job with a pro team workin with them. Hope this helps, either way good luck.

Not only racers, but mechanics as well have to start in the minor leagues, and I guess you won't get the 70,000 you're making each year in your job, working as a mechanic in a secondary racing series. NASCAR mechanics, for example, are specially educated to be racecar experts.

So keep your 70,000-per-year job, and meanwhile try to earn a few extra bucks in racing! That's not bad and you'll have a lot of fun.
