I have this problem also, you can call the local post office and complain and tell them you want to file a formal complaint.

Why would you want to sue the people from whom you wish to eventually receive service? That not withstanding you can only sue the USPS is federal court, it will take you about 4 years, cost you $10,000, and you will have to demonstrate that you have a prima facia case about 6 times. You're better off using the contact us button at the bottom of the page at usps.com and trying to invoke a little wrath from higher up the totem pole. You might also consider having folks send your most important items by priority mail with tracking.

I WOULD SUGJEST THAT ANY IMPORTANT PIECES OF MAIL
THAT YOU SEND VIA THE USPS, SHOULD BE SENT, REGISTERED, NEXT DAY DELIVERY, OR PRIORITY, AS THESE CAN BE TRACED, MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE THAT THE POSTAL SERVICE LOSES ABOUT 5% OF THE MAIL THAT IS SENT AROUND THE STATES AND THE GLOBE,
THAT MAY SEEM LIKE A SMALL PERCENTAGE, BUT IF YOU TAKE IT IN THE MILLIONS OR BILLIONS OF PIECES OF MAIL
WEEKLY,MONTHLY, ANNUALLY, THAT'S A LOT OF MAIL THAT'S UNACCOUNTED FOR!!! CAN YOU SUE THE USPS?
I DON'T THINK SO, BUT YOU CAN TAKE MY ADVICE!!!

Nothing. Have them send it by certified mail so it can be tracked and/or get it insured if it that valuable. If it is just paper have the person fax or email it.

No, as you would not be able to proof it because it is lost. Right?
