I have the bigger wide tires on the back and they rub so bad. Since I had the shocks replaced it is impossible to drive. My back tires are ate up. What kind of shocks would be the best to raise it up so they dont cut into my tires? Thanks for any info any one has.

It already has air shocks. They just suck. What kind would be good. I think the springs up front need to be replaced to so It wont put so muich pressure on the tires. It has a 454.

Shocks wont hold up your back end. Leaf springs will. Odds are your leaf springs have never been replaced i would recomend replacing them or ordering leaf spring helpers which you can get through Classic Industries. They specialize in odds and ends for classic cars and trucks.

First off-

Air shocks suck. Jacking the rear in the air makes the car ride poorly. KYB or Competition Engineering shocks are much better.

Second- chevelles used a coil-sprung rear suspension, not leaf springs. Only way to pick the car up is to use stiffer coil springs. Ames or Year One has them. The best solution is to use rear wheels with the correct backspacing. a 15 by 8" rim with 4 1/2" of backspace will let you fit almost any tire you want, and not hit the rear wheelhouse.

You need a lift kit to raise the back end of the car, possibly new springs as well. Replacing the shocks would do nothing unless you had air shocks that you could pump up to raise the back end and replaced them with ordinary shocks, thus lowering the back of the car.

if the car is at stock ride height you should look at some wheels with a different offset to pull those wide meats into the wheel wells where they belong, when you lift the back you put a lot of stress on the front end , brakes etc. plus you need to have it re-aligned, do you have gobs and gobs of power to justify those big tires ?

Probably don't need to raise the car up as much as you just need to find some smaller diameter shocks. Some of the manufactures offer monotube shocks which are much smaller. Bilstein has some I think.

THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE MAY BEST BE CORRECTED WITH AIR SHOCKS
REGULAR SHOCKS ARE DESIGNED TO ABSORB SHOCK AS THEIR NAME INDICATES
THERE IS NO LIFT INVOLVED JUST SHOCK ABSORBSION

AIR SHOCKS WILL GIVE YOU SOME LIFT TO KEEP THE TAIL END OFF YOUR TIRES
THE WILL GIVE YOU THE ABILITY TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT AS YOU SEE FIT
THE SET OF TWO PLUS THE AIR LINE KITS WILL COST YOU ABOUT $75
