If you do not have any symptoms of endometriosis then I can't imagine why your Ob-Gyn wants to perform the surgery. There is only two reasons why to have the surgery: 1) to elevate the pain associated with endo (Trust me: If you have it severe enough then you know it) and 2) to determine if endo is the reason you are not getting pregnant. However most women who only have a mild or moderate case of endo may have trouble conceiving but often other treatments work.

I had a lap done for my endo. It was an easy surgery to recover from but I had severe pain so it was worth it. I would recommend going to see an Reproductive Specialist. They are more versed in the disease and can determine if it worth the time and cost to have the procedure. Make sure that you have completed all of the tests available to determine infertility before continuing. Good Luck!!

Usually doctors will first conduct an ultrasound. Many times, endometriosis is visible that way and it gives a lot of information without being invasive. If your doctor did not suggest one, then you should probably get a different doctor and a second opinion. Birth control pills and hormone therapy are used to treat endometriosis, not diagnose it. Although in some cases, laproscopic surgery is the only way to detect endo. But get a new dr and an ultrasound first.

It is no biggie. I have had 3 laparoscopy's done on me and all they do is cut you know more than a half of an inch in your naval and just look in to see if there is anything wrong with you. You will most likely have 3 staples. Minimal pain which they should write you out some pain meds for.

I had surgery for my endometriois and i was cut as far as my c-section cut. They had lasered it all out but i know it ha returned.

Have you been complaining of pain? Are you having a hard time getting pregnant? The doctor wouldn't be wanting to do that to you if there wasn't a valid reason for it. Don't worry they will knock you out and you will be fine. You will be all better by the next day.
Good luck and Take care

If you are trying to conveive and have been having difficulty, then that i probably why your doctor wants to check for endometriosis. The first symptom of endometriosis is having a hard time conceiving. Other symptoms may take years to show-up. Having the test wont do any damage, and its better to know than not to know. I would say go ahead and get the test just to make sure, what could hurt?

Some other signs of endometriosis can include:

-heavy and irregualr periods
-pain during sex

Good luck! Remember, if you dont want the test, you dont have to take the test. Its all up to you.

Sounds a little harsh to me. Why can't it be ruled out by the mere fact you don't have any symptoms? Believe me, if you had endometriosis, you would know.
If he needs to do a lap for others reasons then thats fine. As others have posted, it is a fast procedure and you will recover in no time. Good Luck.

If you are not experienceing any symptoms, you may not have endometriosis, however endo is one of the leading causes of infertility and that may be the only symptom you ever experienced. If you are unsure, get a second opinion but you can get support from other endo sufferers (including me) by visiting www.newbabyjubilee.com.

This site can slos give you more info on endo and infertility.

your ob/gyn should first do a vaginal ultrasound, many times that is how endometriosis is discovered, although endo can go in the most odd places. i have it too, but didn't find out until i had an ectopic pregnancy removed. some of it was lodged near my uretrum and so the ob/gyn said he didn't want to touch it (too close to my kidneys). i just haven't heard of doing a laparoscopy to rule out endo. good luck.

You really need to read "Endometriosis Bible & Violet Protocol" by Zoe Brown (also available in electronic format here: http://www.endometriosisbible.info ). It's about how to eradicate endometriosis disease forever. It worked for me, you will see results in only a matter of weeks. Good Luck!

If you don't want the procedure done then you should talk to your doctor. Make him/her convince you and explain why...

Even though your doc is a doctor he/she is just giving their opinion.

If you are uneasy get a second opinion!

Why does he want to perform the procedure is there something going on, like you can't get pregnant or are having pain?
