I am sorry for your loss.
I hope you will feel like smiling this year, I'll bet your dad would not want you to grieve too long, but remember him with joy.

Sorry for your fathers death. I still miss mine a lot. Today was the first Veterens Day Ceremony I have gone to since his death in 2003.

She was probably embrassed, or thought you were lying. The worst case sceanrio is if she thought you should have smiled through your pain. I also think that your response was kinda depressing to her
