It depends. Why do they need convincing? Don't try to force them if they don't want to go. If it seems that they would enjoy it but they're just feeling a little bit down or in a rut & don't feel like going out, just try to cheer them up & tell them to give it a try, it might pick them up. Especially a movie. For 2 hours it takes you out of your own life & absorbs you in the world on the screen. What a great escape! Just make sure it's a movie they'd really like. Let them choose.

As some have already suggested pain can be a very strong motivator but over all the first idea is to convince them that what you are asking is in their own best interest and the second factor is to convince them that they came up with the idea themselves!

The theory behind convincing anyone to do any thing is simple:
Make them believe what you're suggesting is better than the alternative.

In reality, it might be harder. Try pointing out the pluses that will benefit that person, not the pluses that will benefit you.

Tell this preson everyone else has done it, seen it and they'll have nothing to talk about with other people if they don't. Also promise after they've done or seen it they can complain how much they knew it would suck and they can carry thier party-pooping martyr cross for the rest of the day. Good luck with your buzz kill friend.

Ask them if they want to go see a good movie. Or just hang out.

You could try whining, complaining and mean tricks. Or you could be polite and pleasant and suggest things he likes to do that you could do tomorrow together. My Secretary always said you attract more bees with honey than with vinegar.

compromise. If you want to do something that they don't want to. And, they are understanding that you will do something back that You don't want to. That will usually work out that both of you get both happy and sad. But if you care about the person, then your happy they are happy and so on and so forth. Compromise.

Not to be overly eager when asking. Sometimes reverse psychology also works -- with children and headstrong adults.
