I think the most careless mistake a person can make is if they know something is bad for them or can have bad consequences and they still do it. That pretty much defines carelessness to me: lacking caring. I don't think that careless mistakes are as bad, if we're judging, because mistakes are never intentional. But careless decisions mean the person had choices and deliberately chose the more wreckless route.
My sister wrecklessly went into her marriage because she feared being alone. I have wrecklessly accepted jobs because I was afraid another offer wouldn't come along soon enough. And most of us have known our drinking limits yet still have that extra drink that will make us drunk. I'd love to say 'the decision to smoke' but I think when most young people take it up, they don't do it carelessly, they do it because they care about what other people think. But when adults take up smoking or drugs knowing the consequences, that is careless about themselves and the people around them.
The punishment for some of these decisions is living with the pain of the wrong decision and general unhappiness. Some of the others that physically harm others should be punished but it depends on the type of harm. Ditto though for emotional harm since I think that aspect is overlooked a lot.

I think a careless decision many make is bringing a baby into the world. Either by mistake or with little thought. Which can sometimes turn out badly for the child. However some mistakes in life are necessary since mistakes are how a persons learns. So that particular mistake I don't think someone could be punished for. Because that would involve evaluating the lack of thought put into the child and how it's effecting the child. All though it can be punishable if the child is abused or neglected.

Without a doubt, the decision to have children you are incapable of supporting.
In my opinion, this is the most irresponsible and abhorrent thing a person can do.
What I find most disturbing is that it happens on a daily basis.
The only fitting punishment with regards to this in my opinion?
That these people be declared unfit parents and sterilized so that they can never have children again.

driving drunk...getting drunk (or not being drunk at all) and getting angry and hurting someone very badly (or even killing), having a baby when not being able to care for it, getting credit when you have no way of paying it off.
I think that some mistakes don't really deserve actual punishment..some mistakes are it's own punishment.
However, punishment that involves hurting other people (drunk driving, fights, etc) should deserve a trial by jury to determine punishment

I think the most careless thing anybody could do is drive while intoxicated. Their car should get impounded and they should be sentenced to long term rehab.
