Never let a child have a computer in the bedroom

Never give out your real name if chatting

Be careful where you use your credit card online - if you have to use it at all

Always run a firewall program [like Zone Alarm] and an antivirus to protect your computer!

Log your kids chatting online and their emails until they're old enough. If they don't want you to and they are under 12, you KNOW something is wrong

Know who they are chatting with

If you peek over their shoulder and they turn the screen off, you know something bad is going down!

1. Having good, free and recommended security programs, as per here

http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat...

2. Never open an email received from someone/body you've never heard of before.

3. Never add someone to your instant messenger list if you don't know them.

4. Never accept a file transfer from someone you don't know and even if you do know them, always scan with your AV first before opening.

5. Never use a P2P site for downloading music/films as you're accepting a file transfer from a stranger who might have added a virus to the file.

the list is endless but here's a few of my tips.

Make sure that you have anti-virus, and spyware software installed and keep it up to date.

Use a firewall; don’t open any unfamiliar emails or attachments. Since worms are sent from the address books of friends and family I have told my friends and family to include a descriptive subject line in their emails.

Don’t use your credit cards online, unless you know the vendor is reputable and don’t ever use your social security number online.
