What are the specs (processor, OS, ram, HD length, and so on)? How long have you ever had it? what share classes have you ever put in considering you acquire it? have you ever as much as date the working gadget (e.g. put in abode windows provider packs.) Is it slow with all purposes (e.g. clicking on the beginning up button), or purely particular classes (cyber web Explorer.) How lots RAM do you have? How lots unfastened disk area do you have? what share classes are working interior the gadget tray on the decrease good area of the show screen? What Virus utility are you working? while did you final replace the definitions? Your gadget must be loaded with undercover agent ware, malware and spyware that Virus risk-free practices utility won't forestall. acquire this technique Hijack this, run a test and placed up the logfile at Castlecops, or majorgeeks, or bleepingcomputer, and ask the geeks to envision issues out for you.

dont listen to these bafoons.

if i were you this is what i would do. go through your computer and find all the files you want to keep.. i use my computer a LOT for mp's, spreadsheats, movies, games, pictures, classes online, web surfing, chatting... a lot. ..and i can usually fit all of the files that i actually need on one CD. ..so make that CD.

step 2.) reinstall windows xp. what will this do? it gives your computer a clean slate. everything will be erased that was on your computer (which is good because it will erase all of the things that was making your computer drag ***). you will have to spend a few hours setting things up again but itll be worth it.

step 3.) dont put all kinds of programs on your computer. what do you really need? messenger, internet explorer, and office...and thats about it. so dont put all kinds of programs on your computer because they will slow it down. also, they run at start up which eats up your computers main memory (RAM) which cripples your computers speed. they also make it take longer for your computer to start up. and whats worse is most of those programs are useless. want to know how to get rid of them? >start >run >type "msconfig" >startup ....and then unclick everything that you dont know what the heck it is!

btw you dont NEED antivirus software. that slows down your computer big time at start up. plus the annoying update me messages. plus they sometimes update themselves which slows down your internet connection speed. i woudlnt even install antivirus.

finally, your computer can only go as fast as your connection to the internet. if you are on dial up its going to be slow no matter what. if you are on cable it should be tolerable. DSL... still pretty fast. ...high speed dial up can take painfuly long sometimes.

REINSTALL WINDOWS. the very very VERY last thing you need to do is install more crap on your computer. thats whats slowing it down in the first place!

You might have spyware and/or viruses. Scan with the following:

Spyware Tools:

Anti-Virus (only if you don't have your own already):

Cleanup:

Also, check your available physical memory in the Performance tab of Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+Esc) and check your hard drive space too.
