I don't know about the over-the-counter kind, but I was prescribed it for high cholesterol and 2 days after taking it, I had a rash on my face and I was waking up in the middle of the night with hot flashes all over my body (and they were bad). I was miserable, and was off it ASAP...
So honestly, I would recommend not taking it unless you have high cholesterol and NEED it...and least the stuff that is prescribed by doctors...

I am answering this question from the perspective of a nutritionist, not necessarily because I am an expert on cleaning drugs out of the body. But in order to detoxify the system you first and foremost need to drink LOTS OF WATER!!!! There is no miracle pill that will clean you out lest you flush your body with pure fluids. That means, not soda, not juice, not gatorade, but good ol' fashioned WATER!! Also, Goldeseal and Burdock Root are excellent Blood Purifiers. You can ifnd them in the Health Food Store, and they are not necessarily inexpensive. You will need to invest if you are looking to clean yourself up. If I were you I would go to Whole Foods, and get the tinctures (the small brown bottled herbs) of Golden Seal, and Burdock Root, and take them twice daily along with about a gallon of water/day. You should be using the restroom so much that you urine is a light yellow color! Hope this helps! -Janet

no it didn't
i took tooo much and i had liver dysfunction reaction i just kept spewing and got dehydrated from not even being able to hold down water. i was dry heaving with nothing to puke.
