I mean shouldn't you annouce your sexuality only with someone you want to have sex with.

I'm all for civil rights, but I just don't get this part. Who cares if you are gay or straight, unless sex is involved?

I like that there are contradictions to this.

....the other day, I was listening to a liberal political radio station and a caller announced he's been openly gay for 3 years now....I was just like, WTH does that have to do with Immigration reform.

"Heterosexuals are not criticized for their sexual choice ".....WOW....I guess you've never been a heterosexual. I've been criticized by everyone from my friends to my boss, esp if I got a little too drunk and she was of the larger sizes.

LOL -- I always ask myself this same question. I don't walk through the streets announcing, "I am straight and my man & I are having great sex!" Or whatever........

Heterosexuals are not criticized for their sexual choice where homosexuals are. We are in an era where homosexuals are fighting for their rights. If you go back to when black people were fighting for their rights you might have heard one say “I'm black and I'm proud of it”. To show people that they cannot shame everyone into believing the same thing. Many homosexuals remain in the closet because they are either ashamed or scared to come out for fear of being shamed. So those who announce they are proud of being gay are announcing they will not be shamed and they will be strong and fight against those who discriminate them. Which also sets an example for fellow closeted gay people.

I totally agree with you but you have some families and friends that don't accept the fact that their loved one is gay. I figure that's why they have to "announce" the fact that they are and leave it up to the family to accept or reject that. I guess if their families were a little normal then they wouldn't have to do so. But being gay to alot of people is "abnormal" so to speak.

I don't know of many gay people who openly talk about it, on the contrary most people who are gay that I know are very silent about it. In fact there is a guy I knew from work for about a year before I found out he was gay, I coundn't believe it.
