I have an HP Deskjet D1300 printer. For the last 1 year it had been working just fine. Now, from about 2-3 days I'm noticing that the pages I'm printing have a light ink patch at some places. What can be the reason? Is there anything I can do to solve this problem by myself?

The printer has a little spange holder where the cartridges sit.
This spange is to absorb the ink from around the bottom of the cartridge so that it won't mess up the page.

Check to see if this spange is full of ink by now, it might need cleaning. Get a piece of paper towel and hold it on the spange and let it absorb the ink. This should do the job for you.

Good luck.

This may be due to improper contact between printer and cartridge, Clean both the cartridge contacts and carriage contacts in printer where the cartridge sits in printer. I have a webpage which have detailed steps to perform :

set up drivers, specific utility, verify the cables, uninstall each and every little thing, reinstall it with Admin rights on XP, reinstall XP.. Ugh, nevertheless i'm a helpdesk agent the sole desirable answer is: purchase a Mac. connect your printer to it. Bada bing, bada improve.
