I have been trying to reclaim the charges from my bank. I got a letter today offering me just slightly less than half of what I calculated them to be.

Should I carry on and fight or accept their offer?

If I fight, what is the next step? I have never even seen the inside of a court room let alone been part of court proceedings.

If anyone has managed to claim back charges, how did it go for you?

Thanks

The Banks do not have to pay out as the Office of Fair Tradings investigation related to Credit Cards and not Bank Accounts.

The Banks are following a particular formula to calcualte how much they will refund on a gesture of goodwill basis only.

You might be pushing your luck if you ask for more or they may withdraw their offer altogether and call your bluff.

If you accept the offer you do so in full and final settlement and accept that any future charges your account incurs will stand.

depends what the charges are for and whether your completely in the irght or not, if there's any doubt take the offer otherwise get all th fact together and reply with all your details and ask for the full amount back and just keep sending it to them, they'll soon give up. If they take you to court then just stick to your details, they won't bother taking you to court if your in the right because it would cost them too much. Under consumer laws if there is any doubt, the court will make a ruling in your favour.

Banks have paid out to some people to "shut them up", don't think anyone's actually won in court yet.
If you can use the money now then take the offer, fight further you might lose.
If you don't want anymore charges don't go overdrawn.

It seems to me you have done well. Even if you go to court it will still give them what is reasonable.

But know that come what may, after you settle, they will write to you and close your account. It really pays to run your account responsibly and be in their good books.

Just cut your losses and start running your account properly, then you'll have no more charges
