I woke up yesterday morning feeling like I was driving up a hill. You know that feeling when you need to "pop" your ear, but my ear wont pop. When I came to work, I asked a co-worker and she said that her husband experienced the same thing. They went to the ER because he thought he was deaf in an ear, all the did was use one of those $10 ear wax removers that you buy at a drug store. Therefore, I went to a drug store last night and bought one. Afterwards, it felt like it helped a little. When I woke up this mornings, its worse. And now, I have a headache with it. It feels like my head is just full of pressure and i have partial hearing in my left ear. I have no other cold like symptoms however when I was laying on the couch last night my eyes were watering and I got a stuffy nose. But when I stood up, they both went away. Do I need to go to a doctor? What is wrong with me? Anyone experience the same??

It is not the external that is plugged, it is the eustachian tube that is plugged.
Go to the drugstore and get some guaifenesin of which mucinex is a brand name. It will thin the mucus so it drains.
DO not get an antihistamine; they dry up the mucus flow and make the plug worse

Sometimes the tinnitus noises could come together with pain or discomfort in the ear. This usually happens when one or both of your ears are blocked

because of excessive wax. So clear some of it, and the noise will go away.

But it is not always that simple to get rid of the noises. Sometimes the causes can be much more complicated, and there could be several contributing

factors as well. Sadly, your conventional doctor will not be able to give you permanent relief because the treatment offered is only symptomatic. Treating

the symptoms will never help when the causes remain.

Avoid exposure to loud noises. Keep your blood pressure in check, decrease intake of salt, tobacco, alcohol, oily/fatty foods, sugar, cola, tea, coffee and caffeinated beverages as they might aggravate the problem.Chewing dried fruits helps to increase blood circulation in the ear area.Avoid stress and exercise regularly for better blood circulation in your body.Learn to ignore the noise and divert your mind in other things of your interest...

well, it could be allergies, or possibly a sinus infection. I would take a decongestant and and antihistamine to start draining your sinus cavities. If it doesn't seem to get any better after a couple of days I would see a doctor.

If it were me, I'd go to a doctor. If it is a buildup of wax, he can get rid of it for you. If it's something else, then he'll be able to help you with that as well. Hope you feel better soon.

If you begin to experience any added symptoms such as vertigo, nausea, ringing or roaring in the ears, you definitely need to head to an ENT as you may have a serious condition such as Menieres Syndrome. I suffer from this and it is very important to develop a relationship with a physician. To my knowledge, it cannot be cured, but there are things you can do to lessen the impact of symptoms and a few medications to treat symptoms.
Good luck and hopefully yours is just an allergy. See a doctor anyway.
